How Does PSYPACT Benefit You?
PSYPACT facilitates consumers access to psycotherapy in a few ways. First, it allows clients to select from a greater variety of psychologists who may best be able to meet their needs, based on provider expertise, availability, and background. Prior to the comapct, clients were limited to working with the psychologists that were licensed in their home state. Second, the compact allows clients to continue working with their psychologist if they move to another PSYPACT state. Prior to the compact consumers would generally have to terminate their work with their psychologist and find a new one in the state they moved to. Third, PSYPACT makes it easier for psychologists to continue to practice and support clients, if they relocate to a PSYPACT state. In the past, psychologists would often have to undergo licensing tests in the new state which would delay their ability to work with clients.

PSYPACT was approved by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards in 2015 and was operational in 2019. Currently, there are 42 states that are participate in the compact. There are additional states that are in the process of enacting PSYPACT legislation. More information about PSYPACT, the compact states, states that are enacting legislation, and states that have not enacted legislation can be found on the PSYPACT website.
